Beautiful Native Birds of Hawaii Photos
Whether you want to add Hawaii and its birdlife to your list of places to see or you are planning an adventure over there or just want to watch beautiful birds of Kauai, these images will still give a picture of the birdlife in Hawaii. Let’s begin!
Iiwi bird: The Beautiful Scarlet Hawaiian Honeycreeper
The ‘I‘iwi bird, better known as the Scarlet Hawaiian Honeycreeper, has bright red feathers coming out of its black wings and a curved salmon-colored bill poking out amongst the rest.
This nectar-feeding species feeds on nectar from native plants such as ʻōhiʻa lehua; it is known for its high-pitched calls, and it flies ‘fluttering’ on the wing.
Apapane: The crimson Hawaiian Honeycreeper
The crimson Hawaiian honeycreeper ʻApapane (Himatione sanguinea) maintains native forests as its habitat through feeding on blossoms from ‘ōhiʻa lehua trees using black wings and white tail feathers.
The ʻApapane delights observers witholfrequent songs that simultaneously cross-pollinate Hawaii’s indigenous flowers. Still, due to losses of habitat and diseases in avian populations, it has struggled to remain one of Hawaiiʻs more common honeycreepers.
Hawaiian ʻAmakihi: The Beautiful Green Honeycreeper
The Hawaiian ʻAmakihi is a true jewel of these islands, which is a vibrant green honeycreeper having curved bill that is perfectly formed for sipping in nectar and its cheerful song can be heard in Kauai’s lush forests.
Habitat loss and avian malaria have not kept the Kauai Amakihi from thriving, and this beautiful bird is showing a stronger native spirit.
Anianiau: The smallest Honeycreeper
Hawaii’s smallest honeycreeper is Anianiau, that is a yellow bird emerald in native forests. This beautiful little bird, with its brilliant yellow plumage, is a rare gem of the island; it is a delicate grace of Kauai’s native wildlife that attracts bird lovers.
