Several bird species on Kauai contribute to its lavish landscapes. The Hawaiian goose, commonly called Nene, and the colorfully Red-Crested Cardinal are often encountered. Two regularly seen birds are the Zebra Dove and the brightly colored Hawaiian Honeycreeper, or Apapane.

Due to various factors, only eight unique forest bird species remain, six of which (marked with *) live only on Kaua’i: ‘Akeke’e*, ‘Akikiki*, ‘Anianiau*, ‘Apapane, ‘I’iwi, Kaua’i ‘Amakihi*, Kaua’i ‘Elepaio*, and Puaihoi*.

Some of the best bird-watching places on Kauai include Kōkeʻe State Park, the Alakai Swamp, and the Wailua River Valley. These areas are known for their diverse bird populations and stunning natural beauty.

You can bring your pet with you but you have to follow the state rules. The State has a strict pet quarantine program to keep Hawaii rabies-free. Hawaii’s quarantine laws are strict because it is the only state without rabies. These rules are designed to prevent the dissemination of this lethal disease among people and animals.

Dolphins, whales, and turtles live in the sea, while feral cats, wild chickens, Hawaiian wild cattle, and other animals live on land. Many birds, like the Nene goose, aala, and Hawaiian crow, also live here.

To see large mammals like humpback whales, visit one of the oceans surrounding our beautiful Hawaiian Islands. Specifically, they are around Na Pali Coast during their migratory season when they come very close to shore!

This island features many interesting hiking trails. There are 67 hiking trails, 47 walking trails, 31 running trails, and the longest trail on Kauai is the Na Pali Coast (Kalalau). This trail is estimated to be around 31.9 km long.

There are consistent swells all year round and the weather in Kauai is usually ideal for surfers. During winter, November, and March, waves tend to be larger, making them ideal for experienced surfers who like challenges.

Yes, Kauai offers many great spots to see marine life up close and enjoy your free days. It could be better for snorkeling, but you can get into the water and experience the most colorful animals. You can swim with Hawaiian turtle during snorkeling.

Most of Jurassic Park is filmed on Kauai, and the neighboring island Oahu also appears in some scenes. The shots were taken at Kauai’s locations, such as the Allerton Garden, Manawaiopuna Falls, and the Na Pali Coast.
